What is PTA Tax?
PTA tax is the registration fee from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to register your mobile phone. If some need to use a local sim in Pakistan for more than 60 days, the phone must be registered by PTA. Unregistered phones get blocked from all networks. The tax includes customs duty, regulatory duty, sales tax, and (for CNIC registrations) withholding tax, based on the phone’s value.
How to Use the Calculator
- Enter your mobile phone price, in PKR or USD.
- Select your registration type: CNIC or Passport/NICOP.
- Click Calculate to see your estimated tax breakdown.
PTA Tax Calculation
Your total tax is the sum of:
- Customs Duty: Fixed duty based on value of your mobile phone
- Regulatory Duty: Additional duty on top of customs duty
- Sales Tax: A percentage of the declared value
- Withholding Tax: CNIC registrations only
- Mobile Levy: A fixed federal charge by price bracket
Passport registration is usually cheaper than CNIC, mainly because it skips the withholding tax component.
NOTE: (Estimate only. Confirm your exact amount via SMS to 8484 or at dirbs.pta.gov.pk before paying.)
