What changed in Tax Year 2027
Pakistan's salary tax slabs changed as of 1 July 2026, under the Finance Act 2026. If your payslip in July 2026 looked the same as June 2026, your employer likely had not updated to the new rates yet, worth flagging with your HR or payroll team.
The key changes for salaried individuals:
- The 20% bracket replaced the old 23% rate
- The 25% bracket replaced the old 30% rate
- The old single 35% band (which used to start at Rs. 4.1 million) was split into three smaller steps 29%, 32%, and 35%, so the top rate now only applies above Rs. 7 million
- The 9% surcharge that used to apply to high earners has been removed entirely for salaried individuals
- The tax-free threshold stays the same: Rs. 600,000 per year
Current FBR salary tax slabs (Tax Year 2027)
| Annual Taxable Income | Tax Rate |
| Up to Rs. 600,000 | 0% |
| Rs. 600,000 – 1,200,000 | 1% of the amount exceeding Rs. 600,000 |
| Rs. 1,200,000 – 2,200,000 | Rs. 6,000 + 11% of the amount exceeding Rs. 1,200,000 |
| Rs. 2,200,000 – 3,200,000 | Rs. 116,000 + 20% of the amount exceeding Rs. 2,200,000 |
| Rs. 3,200,000 – 4,100,000 | Rs. 316,000 + 25% of the amount exceeding Rs. 3,200,000 |
| Rs. 4,100,000 – 5,600,000 | Rs. 541,000 + 29% of the amount exceeding Rs. 4,100,000 |
| Rs. 5,600,000 – 7,000,000 | Rs. 976,000 + 32% of the amount exceeding Rs. 5,600,000 |
| Above Rs. 7,000,000 | Rs. 1,424,000 + 35% of the amount exceeding Rs. 7,000,000 |
Pakistan uses a progressive tax system; each rate only applies to the portion of your income that falls within that bracket, not your entire salary. So if you earn Rs. 1,500,000 a year, you don't pay 11% on the full amount, you pay 0% on the first 600,000, 1% on the next 600,000, and 11% only on the remaining 300,000.
How your tax is calculated
- Your gross salary is annualized (monthly salary × 12), unless you enter an annual figure directly
- FBR's slab table is applied progressively to that annual figure
- The result is your total annual tax liability
- This is divided by 12 to estimate your monthly deduction, and subtracted from your gross to show your take-home pay
