Petroleum prices in Pakistan are under additional pressure as the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) reviews gasoline tariffs daily.
From 23 August 2026, the federal government will use a daily price method for fuel and high-speed diesel. The system requires OGRA to examine the ex-depot pricing of Motor Spirit (MS) and High-Speed Diesel (HSD) daily except weekends and public holidays.
| Product | Previous Price (22/08/2026) | Price for today (23/08/2026) | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motor Spirit (MS) | Rs. 341.59 | Rs. 341.59 | 0 |
| High Speed Diesel (HSD) | Rs. 368.29 | Rs. 368.29 | 0 |
The last assessment witnessed an upward adjustment in fuel costs for the last period. The surge comes as global energy markets remain exceedingly volatile.
The daily pricing mechanism was introduced to allow domestic gasoline prices to adapt more swiftly to fluctuations in global crude oil markets. It is also aiming to minimise the impact of unexpected international price fluctuations on the economy of Pakistan.
The war between the United States, Israel and Iran has wrought considerable disruption to global oil markets in 2026. The situation has impacted oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most significant shipping corridors for crude oil.
Iran’s limits on shipping through the strait have caused further uncertainty in the international energy markets. The United States has also acted militarily and applied pressure on Iranian ports, raising concerns about world gasoline supply.
A temporary ceasefire in June helped to alleviate energy markets, but the situation deteriorated once further in July following fresh attacks on commercial vessels. Iran then once again halted traffic via the Strait of Hormuz.
The ongoing fighting and interruption to shipping routes are adding further pressure to global oil supplies and prices. Hence, Pakistan is actively watching the international market situation, and OGRA is reviewing petrol and diesel prices regularly.
The regular modifications imply fuel prices in Pakistan may now better reflect big changes in international oil pricing and supply situations.
