US Returns 36 Stolen Antiquities to Pakistan

Thirty-six antiques stolen from Pakistan and smuggled into the United States have been properly restored to the government of Pakistan.

The handover ceremony took place in the New York County District Attorney’s Office, where Pakistan’s Consul General in New York, Aamer Ahmed Atozai, signed the agreement for the repatriation of the artefacts.

Returned objects include a Grey Schist Figure of Yakshi from the fourth century CE and 35 Terracotta Fertility Figures dated from 2700 to 3000 BCE.

Consul General Atozai added that the restitution of the stolen treasures will assist future generations in understanding the civilisation and cultural legacy of Pakistan.
