Apple Watch Series 12 Debuts With Advanced Health Sensing, Readiness Score and New AI Features

Apple Watch Series 12

Apple has introduced the Apple Watch Series 12, its latest smartwatch designed around more detailed health monitoring, fitness insights and intelligent features. The new model combines an upgraded Health Sensing System with the new S11 chip, bringing higher-frequency heart-rate and heart-rate variability measurements alongside a redesigned approach to everyday wellness tracking.

Apple says the new model delivers its most accurate heart-rate sensing in a wearable to date. The company has also introduced a new Readiness feature, designed to help users understand how prepared their body may be for the day based on recent activity, training, sleep and physiological data.

More Frequent Health Measurements

A major focus of Apple Watch Series 12 is continuous health monitoring. Its redesigned sensing system uses new optical and electrical heart sensors, while larger, power-efficient green LEDs allow the watch to measure heart rate every five seconds throughout the day.

The watch also increases the frequency of heart-rate variability measurements. Apple says HRV can provide useful information related to stress and recovery, with Series 12 offering separate views for recovery-related signals and broader cardiovascular insights.

Overnight health measurements can now incorporate recovery HRV against a user’s personal baseline, while a new daytime vitals view gives users another way to monitor changes in their physiological data.

New Readiness Feature

Apple Watch Series 12 introduces Readiness, a daily score intended to help users understand their capacity for the day ahead.

The feature analyzes information such as recent activity, training load, vital measurements and sleep data before producing a score from 0 to 10. Depending on the results, users can receive guidance ranging from taking time to recover to pushing ahead with their planned activities.

The score can also change during the day as new information becomes available, such as the impact of a demanding workout or changes in daytime health measurements.

Longer Workout Battery Life and Faster Charging

Apple Watch Series 12 maintains up to 24 hours of everyday battery life, while outdoor workout battery performance has been increased to as much as 10 hours, according to Apple.

Charging has also been improved. Apple says a 15-minute charge can provide up to 12 additional hours of battery life, making it easier for users to quickly recharge the watch before heading out or going to sleep.

Improved Step Tracking

The new smartwatch also brings an updated approach to step and distance tracking.

Apple has redesigned its pedometer model with new machine-learning algorithms intended to improve distance measurements during indoor walking and running workouts. The S11 chip also contributes to improved all-day step counting.

A new Steps complication allows users to see their step count directly from the watch face.

A Smarter Health App

The Apple Watch experience is also being expanded through a redesigned Health app on iPhone.

The updated app introduces new areas for health insights and long-term wellness analysis. Among the additions is a Longevity section featuring Health Age, which compares certain health metrics with a user’s actual age.

Apple says the redesigned Health app will also use Apple Intelligence to surface more timely information across areas including heart health, sleep, fitness, readiness and other health measurements. The updated experience is scheduled to arrive later in 2026, initially starting with U.S. English.

AI Features Come to Apple Watch

The S11 chip also enables a new collection of Audio Intelligence capabilities.

These include Sound Recognition, which can notify users about important sounds such as alarms, sirens and doorbells. Another feature, Live Rewind, can help users recall something that was recently said, while Siri Recap can generate brief summaries of conversations.

Shazam is also integrated into the new experience, allowing the watch to identify music playing nearby.

Apple emphasizes that privacy is central to these audio features. The company says the system does not create or store audio recordings, with processing designed around dedicated hardware and privacy protections.

Siri Gets More Intelligent

With watchOS 27, Apple Watch Series 12 supports a new version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence.

The updated Siri experience is designed to understand more personal context and provide access to broader knowledge directly from the wrist. Apple is also introducing a new Siri-focused watch face for quicker access to the assistant.

New Designs and Finishes

Apple Watch Series 12 comes in 42mm and 46mm sizes and is offered in a range of aluminum and titanium finishes.

Aluminum options include dark bronze, black, light gold and space gray, while titanium models are available in radiant gold and natural titanium. Apple is also introducing a ceramic version in pearl white and night blue.

The company has additionally expanded its selection of Sport Bands, Sport Loops and other watch bands with new colors and materials.

Apple Watch Series 12 Price and Availability

Apple Watch Series 12 is available to preorder, with retail availability beginning September 18, 2026 in the United States and a number of other markets.

The smartwatch starts at $399 in the United States. Apple says it will be sold across more than 50 countries and regions, including the UAE, India, the UK, Canada, Australia, France, Germany and Japan.

A Major Step Toward More Personalized Wearable Health

With Series 12, Apple is placing greater emphasis on continuous health measurements, personalized readiness insights and artificial intelligence. Rather than focusing solely on fitness tracking, the new Apple Watch is positioned as a broader health, safety and everyday intelligence companion.

The combination of higher-frequency sensing, the Readiness feature, improved workout performance and new AI capabilities makes Apple Watch Series 12 one of Apple’s most health-focused wearable updates yet.
