Pakistan’s federal government debt again rose in June 2026 to Rs. 83.642 trillion, figures provided by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) showed.
The debt stock increased by 7.4% year-on-year (YoY) as of June 2025. The government debt increased by 2.1% month-on-month to Rs. 81.955 trillion vs Rs. 80.35 trillion in May 2026.
The government’s debt has risen by an average of some Rs. 183,000 every second over the same period last year, which amounts to over Rs. 15.8 billion a day.
Internal debt also increases

The long-term public debt in the domestic debt portfolio rose from Rs. 45.653 trillion to Rs. 48.446 trillion over the past year.
Short-term debt also saw a large jump from Rs. 8.756 trillion to Rs. 10.928 trillion in the same time.
The new numbers show that Pakistan’s government borrowing continues to grow, with the increases coming from both long and short-term domestic debt.
