Pakistan has revived the validity of its current airspace restrictions for Indian registered aircraft, Indian airlines and aircraft on rent or operated by Indian companies. The ban will remain in force till August 24, 2026, as per new schedule to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA).
The renewed directive, issued on government orders, extends a policy that was first introduced in April 2025 amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and India.
There is no change in the underlying policy of barring Indian commercial and registered aircraft from using Pakistani airspace. The latest NOTAM is only an extension of what was already in place.
The current shutdown is likely to continue disrupting working planning for Indian airlines, many of which must take longer different routes on international flights to bypass Pakistani airspace altogether.
These sorts of diversions usually result in more fuel burnt, longer flight times and additional costs for the carriers involved.
Officials say the extension is in queue with Pakistan’s current aviation and security policy in the face of the current situation in the region.
The Pakistan Airports Authority said the restrictions will be the same till the new expiry date unless amended or revoked earlier by a future official announcement.
