NADRA has released an update to its Pak ID mobile application to facilitate the people to deal with vehicle-related documents without visiting the government offices. As an update, Pak ID version 5.6.8 was released in partnership with the Government of Balochistan.
This is part of NADRA’s broader initiative to digitize more routine government services and make it easier for its citizens to get things done from their phones instead of waiting in long queues.
What’s New in This Pak ID Update
The update comes with two big features for vehicle owners in Balochistan:
Digital Vehicle Card Now, the owners of vehicles registered in Balochistan can view and access their vehicle details directly inside Pak ID app. That means you don’t have to be carrying physical documents around all the time.
Biometric Verification for Buying and Selling Cars Now when a car changes hands, both the buyer and seller can verify their identity through biometric verification within the app. The goal is to make the transfer of ownership safer and to reduce the chances of fraud in the sale of vehicles.
Why This Update Matters
In Pakistan, transferring a vehicle has historically required a lot of paperwork and multiple visits to registration offices. NADRA aims to: Take identity checks and vehicle records on to the Pak ID app
- Save time for car sellers and buyers
- Cut down on paperwork and manual verification
- Make it more difficult to fake/cheat ownership transfers
These features are presently available only in Balochistan, but NADRA has a history of expanding successful pilot programs to other provinces over time.
NADRA’s Ongoing Digital Push
This is not the only recent move by NADRA to modernize its services. The authority has also introduced self-service kiosks at selected registration centres through which people can perform several ID related tasks themselves including:
- Renewal of NICOP (National Identity Card of Overseas Pakistanis)
- How to Apply for a Duplicate NICOP in Case of Loss or Damage
- Cancel NICOP for Deceased Relative
These kiosks are currently only available at select NADRA offices but the rollout is expected to be wider as the program progresses.
Conclusion
The Pak ID app update and the self-service kiosks are certainly NADRA’s push for digital-first solutions for identity and vehicle-related services. If the Balochistan pilot proves successful, it wouldn’t be surprising to see other provinces soon introducing similar digital vehicle features.
If you own a car registered in Balochistan, it’s better to update your Pak ID app to version 5.6.8 for now to experience the new features.
