Samsung’s AI Glasses Aim to Prevent Secret Recording

Samsung unveiled its new AI-enabled smart glasses at its recent Unpacked presentation, showing a significant focus on customer privacy. The glasses operate on Android XR and have a built-in capability to make it evident to others when the camera is in use.

The LED indicator light automatically turns on when the camera is being used for taking images, recording movies or joining video conversations on apps such as Google Meet. This visual cue lets the user (and others around them) know that something is being recorded.

Samsung has further enhanced this privacy protection with an anti-tampering function. If someone tries to cover the LED indicator with a sticker or something else, the system detects that it’s blocked and turns the camera off right away.

This comes after Meta’s recent similar step for its smart glasses, suggesting an industry-wide shift towards openness and user privacy.

While the functionality is anticipated to mitigate the danger of clandestine recording, doubts linger about whether it will completely resolve wider privacy worries related with wearable cameras.

Samsung’s AI smart glasses also have no stated release date.
