LAHORE – Punjab police on Saturday registered a case against 11 police officials, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sarwar Road police station, after a mistaken raid was conducted at the Lahore residence of the Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan. It comes after allegations the officers went to the wrong property during an operation at a neighbouring house.
The First Information Report (FIR) accused the officers of allegedly exceeding their legal authority in the raid. Police said the raiding team had intelligence about a house nearby but mistakenly entered the home of the Attorney General.
Irfan, the Attorney General’s driver, said that the SHO and other police officials entered the house climbing over the gate when only domestic staff were present in the house. He said the officers also took away the property’s CCTV recording system but later returned it, although the footage was allegedly deleted from the device, which is called a digital video recorder (DVR).
The complaint said Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan was in a meeting when the incident took place and returned home after being told about the raid. The complainant also said flower pots and other items outside the house were damaged during the operation.
Punjab Police has registered a case against the officials involved in the incident. The SHO has also been granted interim bail and investigations are underway, reports said.
The incident has prompted questions about operational procedures and accountability within law enforcement, as authorities are set to investigate how the mistaken raid took place and whether additional disciplinary action is necessary.
